Blessed… A good way to describe the 2023 hockey season. With diligent players and knowledgeable coaches, the season could not but be extremely successful. Thank you to every coach, player and parent who faithfully tackled the season with enthusiasm. Without it, the season would not have been as successful at all.Our mini-hockey has grown from strength to strength. This year we boasted 8 mini-hockey teams. Our little players were eager to learn which made practices very exciting. The focus was placed on introducing players to the game and creating passion and a love for the game. Our players performed extremely well against all schools in the region during the various mini-hockey tournaments that they participated in. As usual, Lumies' senior hockey cooked and did not disappoint the players. They show up to every practice dedicated and eager to learn new skills. Both the 0/11 and 0/13 teams participated in the A-League. The 0/11A girls show great potential and finish third overall in the league. The first team finished 3rd in the A-League, which is a very big achievement. Congratulations to these girls. You are Lumies' pride. Our 0/13A girls also had a busy season which kicked off with a tour in Bloemfontein which was hosted by Elsie Coetzer. There our girls developed a lot as well as got the opportunity to play against big schools like Oranje Meisiesskool. Our 0/13A team finished the season by participating in the "Spar Hockey Challenge Festival" and did very well. None of their matches were lost and they ended the day by finishing third overall. Individual players also did extremely well this season. We are very proud of the following girls who excelled on the hockey field. Neo Mofokeng was included in the u/13A NFS team. Buhle Hokomane, Bokang Molete, Katleho Lekale and Dimpho Pitjeng were included in the u/13 B NFS team. Congratulations to these girls, we hope your passion for the sport continues to grow. With such a group of talented players, expert coaches and supportive parents, Lumies' hockey can only go from strength to strength. We look forward to tackling the 2024 season.
